Summary

Automated calls that use an artificial voice must disclose at the start of the message that the voice is AI-generated, in addition to existing identification requirements for prerecorded-message calls.

Businesses placing automated calls with AI-generated voices to California numbers.

What you must disclose

A statement at the beginning of the call that the voice is artificially generated, plus the caller's identity.

When: At the start of the call, before the message content.

Other duties

  • Keep TCPA consent records.

Exemptions

  • Live-agent calls without AI-generated voice.

Penalties

Public Utilities Code penalties and unfair-competition remedies.
